A recent chemistry experiment I did. This time I also added a copper penny which makes the blue glow more intense as it accelerates the release of oxygen into the water. This oxygen reacts with the luminol creating the blue glow. This is why the glow is most noticeable in an aura around the penny. This is a chemiluminescent reaction (it gives off light). It was done by mixing water, ammonia persulfate, and luminol with a copper penny catalyst.
